The Society of Health & Physical Educators (SHAPE) Florida Convention which was held on October 21, 2022 in Kissimmee, FL was a huge success, as two of Warner’s Physical Education K-12 majors received both of the prestigious student awards.

Saray Perez was honored with the Outstanding Future Professional Award (formerly Student of the Year). This award honors an outstanding future professional member of SHAPE Florida majoring in health, physical education, dance, and/or a professionally related field. The nominee serves as a positive role model for the profession and their peers in the following areas: leadership, scholarship, and service during the nominee’s undergraduate professional preparation.

Trey Pemberton was honored with the Katherine W. Montgomery Scholarship Award. This award is given to a student who has exhibited an interest in the field of his or her choice and in teaching or working with people as determined by high school and college activities, work (paid and volunteer) experiences, and the recommendations of teachers, academic advisors, and/or department heads.

The students were elated because their professor, Dr. Maureen Davin, also received an award – the prestigious Don Knitt Service Award. This award recognizes an individual SHAPE Florida member making a significant contribution to the SHAPE Florida organization.
