Countdown to Royal Cup Part 8: A Peak Behind the Curtain

Here’s All that Goes into Executing Royal Cup

We’re on the homestretch—Royal Cup is almost here! If you have followed along from the beginning, bless you. And if you are just jumping in, welcome! Royal Cup is a scholarship competition that highlights the best of our incoming class of high school seniors. It is not too late to sign up!

As is the case with nearly any quality and recurring event, a lot goes into Royal Cup. There are many hands, eyes, and minds that execute this event, and we don’t take your portfolio submissions or attendance lightly. Here are some of the “nuts and bolts” that make this event happen.

The Warner University Admissions Staff is the engine. They set the date months in advance, coordinate registration and portfolio submissions, market the event, recruit the necessary help, set-up the day before, tear down after the event, and run the event day. The main room needs to be set up and decorated, the check-in table needs to be put into place and manned, food needs to be purchased and picked up, and the interview and essay rooms need to be set up to be moderated.

The staff and faculty are vital to the event, as well. They make up the collection of judges for both the interview rooms, and the committee that chooses our Royal Cup winner. You’ll also hear some of them speak at the event about the Honors Program and our school’s overall vision.

We can’t forget our student ambassadors. They pick up all the dropped pieces. They help flip rooms, set up, tear down, and, oftentimes, they are the creative genius behind decorations and set up. Don’t discredit their importance just because they’re still students. Many of them were Royal Cup attendees, themselves.

The Warner facilities team are the quiet heroes of the event. They help set up the space, they get the building clean, and they adhere to requests for room set ups. This event could not happen without our Facilities Department.

The event doesn’t happen without the backing of President Sutton. He is a huge believer in the mission of Royal Cup: highlighting high-achieving academic seniors and challenging them to lean into our mission of being academically challenging, biblically faithful, and culturally courageous.

On Royal Cup day, every face you see and hand you shake had an instrumental part in making the event happen. Be kind to all of our faculty, staff, and students. You never know how those people may play a role in impacting your life down the road.
