Support Your Student and Let Them Lead
The day is now in sight. We are just about five weeks away from the 2026 Royal Cup Scholarship Competition and it is not too late to sign up! So, let’s address the real heroes here and talk about how they can remain the heroes: the parents. If you’re a parent of a Royal Cup participant, here are a few thoughts for you preparing for the big day.
- Please come with your student. We mean this. You are not in the way by being there and you are not a burden. In fact, we are actually going to have a setup with staff present just for you, parents, while your students are competing. Your son or daughter would not be able to have this opportunity without your support for the last 18 years. You are probably planning to attend, anyway. In case you are on the fence, there is your nudge.
- We understand parents’ desire to support their students; however, the judging committee evaluates candidates strictly on their own merits. That said, we kindly ask that parents are cautious of, intentionally or unintentionally, attempting to influence scholarship outcomes through personal stories, credentials, or connections shared with staff or faculty members. Scholarship decisions are made through a structured and fair process, and additional advocacy does not impact the final results. We understand that these incidents often stem from your well-placed pride in your child’s achievements. Your student is likely exceptional. They are academically strong, involved in service, committed to athletics, leadership, or faith. Those accomplishments are exactly why they were invited to participate in Royal Cup. Each student will have an opportunity to share their achievements and experiences during their interview. We appreciate your understanding and partnership as we work to create an equitable experience for every family.
- Bring your questions. We can handle it. We’re counting on it. We will have a dedicated time for you to ask questions to staff members from admissions, academics, security, student life, and athletics. And if we don’t know the answer to your question, we will find the right person who does. It is our highest priority that you feel comfortable about the decision you and your student are making about attending our school. It is an honor, and one we don’t take lightly. There are no dumb questions and if you are uncomfortable asking something to the collection of staff, feel free to pull aside a staff member and ask privately.
It is our joy to host you for Royal Cup. We mean that. We look forward to this day all year! Many of our most impactful future graduates and alumni made their first impression with us at Royal Cup. Warner will not only become the future graduate’s home for the next four years, but it will also become yours. That last home game, the senior night walk, and the commencement ceremony in a few years will be so sweet, especially in the context of looking back at where it all started.
