Warner University Revises Holiday Schedule to Honor Freedom and Liberty

Warner University is making two important changes to its 2026 holiday schedule. First, campus will be closed on Wednesday, November 11, 2026, in honor of Veterans Day. Second, all offices will be closed not just one day but two days—Friday, July 3 and Monday, July 6—in celebration of Independence Day, which will fall on a Saturday in 2026.

Dr. Gentry Sutton, President of the university, says of the Veterans Day change, “I’m not sure why we have not taken off on Veterans Day in the past, but we will do so in the future. The observance of holidays is meaningful, and closing our campus on Veterans Day is one way we can say thank you to our employees who have served our great nation. Moreover, we need to properly pause and reflect on the sacrifices they and their families have made.”

When federal holidays fall on a weekend, as Independence Day will this year, common practice is to close offices on Friday if the holiday falls on a Saturday, or Monday if the holiday falls on a Sunday. Dr. Sutton says that the two-day observance will be a one-time occurrence in honor of the nation’s 250th birthday.

Dr. Sutton states, “I want employees to be able to attend special celebrations in Washington or wherever they might be happening across our country without having to use vacation time. We should not take lightly the 250-year success of the American experiment. Moreover, with the troubling rise in anti-Semitism and increasing sympathies toward socialism, communism, and other ideologies that are patently incompatible with both a biblical worldview and the values that underpin our freedoms and liberties, it is important that we do all we can to celebrate and champion the ideas that have led to our flourishing.”
