Get to Know Daniel Estabrooks
Daniel Estabrooks serves Warner as an Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences. He has been working with Warner since August of 2013. He has a Bachelor of Science in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Tennessee as well as a Master of Science in Ecology from Middle Tennessee State University. Daniel’s professional achievements are vast. He documented the first known population of Giant Toad (Rhinella horribilis) in Florida, as well as the only established introduced population of the species in the world. He also documented a population of Veiled Chameleons (Chamaeleo calyptratus) in Babson Park, which was at the time the northernmost documented chameleon population in the United States. He is very active in the citizen science projects eBird and iNaturalist. He has submitted audio recordings for 233 bird species to eBird, including the #1-rated Mangrove Cuckoo recording globally on the platform. He has also documented locality data for 1,575 species of life forms through iNaturalist.
Daniel is a big Pittsburgh Penguins fan. He also says that leaving sound recorders in various places to identify the calls of migrating birds is one his favorite hobbies, even though it is related to his job. His favorite Bible verse is Ecclesiastes 2:24: “A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God.”
