Alumni Spotlight: Sarah Michael Shares How She Uses Her Biology Degree in Her Field

Part of Warner University’s mission statement is that we aim to equip students to serve. Recently, we had the privilege of having an alumna demonstrate her ability to serve by returning to campus and educating our current students. Sarah Michael graduated with honors from Warner University in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Almost immediately after graduation, she was hired by the Department of Investigation and Forensic Sciences in Tampa. There she works in their biology section as a Crime Laboratory Technician. Sarah has found great success in this career. In the less than a year that she has been working there, she has already been promoted. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Forensic Science.

Sarah visited Warner to present to the students of the Natural Sciences and Mathematics department. Sarah taught the students about her career specifically and her department as a whole. She showed how her education at Warner in the Biology program prepared and equipped her for the work she is doing now. The event was organized by Dr. Liana Sanchez, the chair of the Natural Sciences and Mathematics department. Dr. Sanchez had this to say about the event: “I thought her story, efforts and accomplishments were an example of success that our students could learn from.” The goal of the presentation was to highlight some of the less commonly known careers that a biology degree can lead to.

Sarah shared with us how her time at Warner has shaped her: “My time at Warner helped me grow in all areas of my life. Thanks to my amazing professors, especially Dr. Liana Sanchez, I was able to land a position in my dream career field at the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (Biology Section) just after graduation. Not only did Warner help me start my career, but also get closer to God. Just before graduating, I made a public declaration of my faith and got baptized. My faith changed the perspective I had on my career. My goal is to bring Christ in a career field where He is needed most, forensics.”

Sarah’s presentation was a great blessing for our students in the Natural Sciences and Mathematics department. We are proud of the work that Sarah has accomplished and what she will continue to accomplish in her field!
