President Sutton’s 12th Principle

Philosophy of Christian Education:

Every Christian’s Responsibility

In last summer’s “Get-to-Know-Dr. Sutton” series, we released a piece about his approach to Christian higher education and featured two points of his 12-point educational philosophy. This semester we will highlight the other ten principles that Dr. Sutton believes should drive Christian education at the classroom level.

Dr. Sutton’s final principle for Christian education is that the Christian educator should allow
for the power and unpredictably of the Holy Spirit.
Of this principle he says, “The teacher
should seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance in choosing and developing curriculum materials, in
communicating content, and in handling unexpected moments that may lend themselves to
unplanned lessons. The Christian educator should also encourage his or her students to seek the
Holy Spirit in the learning process.”

We hope you have enjoyed reading about the seriousness with which our president engages with
the Christian-education process. Warner University is firmly grounded in educational principles
that promote intellectual and spiritual discipleship and that recognize the inextricable
relationship between academic and spiritual growth.
